During the talks, the meeting participants placed special emphasis on trade and economic relations between the two countries and analyzed ongoing joint projects.
The co-chairs of the Turkmen-Japanese Committee for Economic Cooperation – Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Managing Executive Officer of Itochu Corporation Hiroyuki Tsubai – held a video conference meeting on Monday.
The officials considered promising areas of cooperation in the oil and gas, gas chemical and processing industries and in the transport sector, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan said in its press release.
During the talks, the meeting participants placed special emphasis on trade and economic relations between the two countries and analyzed ongoing joint projects. The parties discussed further steps to implement joint projects in cooperation with leading financial institutions and taking into account the realities of the current economic situation in the world.
The parties outlined the projects successfully implemented in Turkmenistan with the participation of Japanese companies, including a plant for the production of ammonia and urea in Mary velayat’s Mary city, Kiyanly polymer plant in Balkan velayat, a plant for the production of urea in the city of Garabogaz in Balkan velayat, a plant for the production of gasoline from natural gas (GTG) in Ahal velayat. The sides also discussed the ongoing construction of a modern gas turbine power plant in the Lebap velayat.
During the meeting, the officials highly assessed the level of the Turkmen-Japanese relations in the political, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian fields, and noted the importance of mutual visits at the highest level in the development of bilateral ties.
In a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of Japan Yoshihide Suga on May 10 this year, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov announced the upcoming completion in Lebap velayat of a gas turbine power plant’s construction, in which Japanese Sumitomo Corporation takes part, and invited the Prime Minister to visit Turkmenistan at the end of August to jointly participate in the inauguration of the facility.
