The official statement on climate change and environmental security presented by the President of Turkmenistan at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in Dubai on December 1-2, 2023, is now an official document of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the statement, available in all six UN languages, is under the agenda items "Protection of global climate for present and future generations of humankind" and "Zone of peace, trust, and cooperation in Central Asia."
The document outlines Turkmenistan's commitment to the Global Methane Commitment and plans to collaborate with UNEP in establishing a UN Regional Climate Change Technology Centre in Central Asia based in Turkmenistan.
