Turkmenistan has launched a digital program allowing provision of customs authorities with preliminary information on goods transported through the international system of customs transit, the Interstate Television and Radio Company MIR reported on Thursday.

Five customs posts in Turkmenistan have joined the international digital system. The International Road Transport Union recommends carriers to start using the program now. Starting next year, it will be obligatory in Turkmenistan to provide preliminary information on the movement of cargo across the border.

Captain Eziz Dadebayev of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan said, "The program is aimed at speeding up work at customs checkpoints. With its help, we will now be able to review documents much faster, which will also have a positive impact on logistics. It will increase Turkmenistan's competitiveness in the system of international maritime and overland transport."
