Turkmenistan produces ointments, grains and teas from licorice root.
Buýan Agro-Industrial Complex of the Ministry of Healthcare and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan produced 2,961 tons of refined licorice root in 2021.
The enterprise located in the city of Turkemenabat in Turkmenistan’s eastern velayat of Lebap produced 680 tons of dry extract and 610 tons of thick extract form the purified licorice root. Compared to the previous year, the growth rate amounted to 118.7%, the country’s official media reported on Wednesday.
At the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan, the Turkmen licorice root is reportedly in high demand among foreign businesses.
Licorice root is an ecologically clean local raw material, rich in vitamin C and essential oils. Its sweetness is 40% higher than that of sugar. Turkmenistan also produces ointments, grains and teas from licorice root harvested in the country.
